Author Headshots

Behold! I have headshots! Well, really, head-and-torso-shots.

Tell me in comments which one you like best, and why. Thanks!

  1. So hard to choose! I really like them all! But I think, after really looking, that I like the 3rd one because it looks the most like you in person. To me, anyway.

  2. 1. "I'm secretly a serial killer. Ha ha!"
    2. "Aye, I'm an awesome sea captain!"
    3. "I'm a psychic. See, I can see the light!"
    4. "Adopt me. Go on, you know you want to."
    5. "You know I like you because I didn't kill you for interrupting my reading."

I like 2, 4 and 5 the best. If I had to choose just one, I vote for 2.

  3. #3. You look wise and funny. So it's authentic.

  4. The fourth one. -nalo

  5. I'm torn between the 2nd & 3rd shot; the 2nd because I don't where you are, but it looks awesome & the 3rd because it has the best lighting & I can really see you.

  6. I think any of these would be fine, although I like # 4 the best, mainly just because of process of elimination.

#3 looks the most posed, #5 makes you look like a college professor, the lighting in #2 reminds me of a police mug shot and #1 is just okay.

  7. These are good, and I like #3 the best. Though #2 is a close second.

  8. It depends on what you want it to say. I vote for either number 3 (which makes you look amused by some secret) or 5 (which makes you look bookish and approachable).

But here's what I think the others say:

Number 1 looks like you want to know how we found you and now that we have it won't go well for us.

Number 2 indeed makes you look like a little Dutch boy.

Number 4 makes you look ordinary--just an ordinary Jane who happened to write a few novels.

  9. I like 1 and 2. As much as I like seeing books in pictures.

    ROFLMAO!!!

  11. I like number four. It doesn't look overly posed or uptight. Just natural and relaxed.

  12. #4, definitely. Although #3 is adorably cute, #4 just looks very professional.

  13. I like the middle shots the best; numbers 2-4. That said? I think #3 is the winner for me.

  14. I like one and four best-- the warm colors in the background make you look vibrant and approachable.

  15. If we were both in a bar, #5 is the one that would make me most interested in coming over to talk to you.

Take that for what it's worth, I guess.

  16. I like 4 and 5 the best. Five I think the most.

  17. The last one. It's part of who you are. You read a lot and then comment on what you read, as well as write. I think it's the best. #3 and #4 would be my other choices as more typical headshots and with more natural expressions.

  18. I like 2 and 4. You look cute and I like how the backgrounds frame you.

  19. I think 1 and 2 are most interesting. The others remind me of authors' pics I've seen a lot. The background of 2 intrigues me but I think 1 has the most qualities, esp. great atmosphere and ambiguous facial expression. Alas, I don't know you or your work but in 1 it looks to me as if you are on a case of some sort and approaching it with gusto.

  20. #3 is my first choice because you look amused and like yourself. Second choice in #5, which looks as if someone is interupting your reading, but you are too nice to yell. (maya_a from LJ)

  21. #2, absolutely. There's mischief there, and that's delightful.

  22. i'm voting for #3 of course. that ring!

  23. 3 for sure. Your expression is the most natural and the glancing to the side makes it more interesting, invites the viewer to wonder what you are looking at/thinking about. 1 and 2 seem to have that forced "ok I'll smile but I feel awkward about it" look that I often seem to suffer from myself in photographs.

  24. I like the second and the last!

  25. Given that I'm on some sort of crap Dell that distorts colors and I can't set the screen properly so everyone looks short and fat, I like 2 b/c it's quirky and humorous, and 5 b/c it's so rare and cool to see a writer actually reading--also, if anyone just wanted a mug shot of you they could crop it.
But they're all good tho #3 looks like you're distracted in mid conversation with the viewer.

  26. I'm sticking with #3. It's just so authorly while still being approachable. Perfection!

  27. I'm sorry. I think they're all really good. That's not very helpful, is it? If there is one you prefer in your heart (kind of like lust-in-your-heart only not), I would go with that one.

  28. #3 is the most charming!

  29. you needed voting buttons!

  30. I think I am going to make a spreadsheet just for the fun of it, and end up using different photos depending on my mood and the occasion.

  31. I look at the eyes.
    1. You look wary here to me. Not enjoying the photo shoot?
    2. You look mischievous, I like this one. Your face is also well lit.
    3. You are smiling with your eyes. Your face is again well lit. Also a good one.
    4. You look reserved in this picture. The eyes aren't smiling.
    5. You look relaxed, warm, welcoming, but the background is pretty dark. I'd be afraid with a bad photo reproduction you'd become a floating head and hand.

    I vote 2 or 3.

    Just a fan.

  32. I vote 5, 3, and 4 - in that order. :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. THREE. You look like you are thinking of something interesting. You look like you.

  34. 43 votes for no. 2. Great combination of semi-naughty almost-smile: haha, I know something you don't know...and, if the viewer has a warped mind (that would be me and my 42 other personalities), a delightful blend of naughty with a hint of sinister...but then, I we seem to be in the minority--but we wants it anyway, my precious.

  35. They all have something, but I love 2, because it reminds me of someone shyly singing a dirty song. You were and are the cutest thing ever.

  36. I have to agree with these comments:
    1. "I'm secretly a serial killer. Ha ha!"
    2. "Aye, I'm an awesome sea captain!"
    5. "You know I like you because I didn't kill you for interrupting my reading."

That said, in #4 the background is distracting.

    #3 looks most like you.

    ReplyDelete
  37. A late vote for #3, because of the background color (too virulently orange in #1 and #4 for my taste), and the most natural smile. That said, these are all good photos, and I could definitely see them being used for different purposes, especially for separate genres.

  38. I love the last!

  39. #3 does have the most natural smile on your face, so I will probably go with the majority and vote for it.
#2 is fun--I like the cap and iron work, but you are a bit stiff
#5 is also pretty natural looking, but really dark.

#1 you look surprised to me and not in a good way.
#4 looks stiff like you are a muppet (hand up your butt about to move your mouth)

  40. ROFLing at the muppet because you are SO RIGHT.
