Kindle-cising
Sometimes I read while I'm exercising. Usually, it's an article or newsletter I've printed out, so I can discard the pages into recycling when I'm done. Occasionally, I read a magazine, particularly thin ones like the SFWA Bulletin, because they're easy to fold flat.
I've noticed that the elliptical trainers at my gym have little ledges that look broad enough to support a Kindle or other e-reader. The treadmills probably do as well, though I don't usually use those.
Those of you who have e-readers, do you ever use them while exercising? What model do you have?
Do you make the font larger? How do you protect your reader from sweaty hands? Is it difficult to operate while you're in motion?
Are there any drawbacks I should be aware of?
...nice shorts, Rudolf Valentino.
Also, Erotic Exploits is now available for Kindle. Since I don't yet have a Kindle, if you happen to download the sample, I would be grateful if you could let me know how the formatting looks. UK Edition is here. [Edited to add, the formatting does have an issue. So I need to take it down and fix it.]

I could not get through a workout without my Kindle. I make the font bigger, and use it on the elliptical, bike, and treadmill (the last only if I am walking -- turning ages while running is not so safe). I take the sleeve off -- it fits better that way IMO.
ReplyDeleteThe only drawback is that sometimes I have walked off without it, but I usually realize within 5 steps of the machine!
Thanks! I suspect it would be easier to press a button to turn a page than to fumble with my pile of papers, as well.
ReplyDeleteI read my Kindle in all sorts of situations where a book just wouldn't have worked. That includes while I was drying my hair the other day. My husband thinks I'm starting to have a problem.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a problem until you have it surgically grafted onto your body....
ReplyDeleteI read either a magazine or a book on the treadmill, elliptical and bike. No fancy Kindle for me - just old fashioned pages.
ReplyDeleteTreadmill is a little tricky, and I can't read when I'm jogging. But walking I can do. Its the only way I get through a work out, to be honest!
December, do you use anything to keep your books open? I've had trouble with that.
